The thoughts, or obsessions, that characterize OCD can sometimes take the form of images or impulses, and they can cause overwhelming anxiety in the sufferer.Repetitive behaviors, aimed at reducing the anxiety, are characteristic of the disorder and can become very time-consuming and demanding.
But it's also possible to have only obsession symptoms or only compulsion symptoms.
However, engaging in the compulsions brings no pleasure and may offer only a temporary relief from anxiety.
You may make up rules or rituals to follow that help control your anxiety when you're having obsessive thoughts.
